COLLIE CONFERENCE, BERGEN 2008

Full of inspiration from the meeting in Budapest, I was looking forward to the collieconference here in Bergen. It was arranged by Norwegian Collie Club region west, and it was a very nice event. We went through the Collie Standard with details explained by Mrs. Randi Narvesen, Crubow Collies. It really did catch the interest among the participants. Then Mrs. Gitte Hjort Sørensen, Vanity Collies, went through the somewhat difficult area of colourgenetics. Colours can be difficult as genetics can be, but she managed to make it both very interesting and a little bit easier to understand.

We were fortunate to have a visit of Mr. Brian Hawkins, Brilyn Collies, who told us about breeding, what to look for, how to linebreed, and he introduced us to the way of putting together a pedigree based on linebreeding. From the questions asked it was clear that he comes from a "breeding culture" somewhat different from ours. But it is indeed interesting to have other - and to some- new impulses from a person who has been doing this for several decades. He is not a nobody in collie history.
